Attention Travellers!
Physically challenged applicants are requested to contact our helpline
prior to visiting our centre to submit their application so that
we may offer them the best possible assistance.
Please note that a visa is no guarantee for access into the Schengen
States. The final authorization remains within the competence of
the Immigration Officer at the border.
In addition to a valid passport with a visa (except for exempted
nationals), every foreigner, when entering Italy, should be in a
position to produce to the Immigration Officer the following documents:
Concerning his/her Stay in Italy
- if staying in a hotel: hotel reservation, documents from a
travel agency
- if staying in a private residence: original letter of invitation
("lettera di invito")
Concerning his/her Means of Living
- Latest bank statements
- Travelers cheques
- International credit card with statement of the credit limit
- Alternatively, a guarantee from the Italian bank ("fidejussione
bancaria") of the host in Italy
Proof of a Medical Insurance
- Proof of valid travel insurance policy, either individual or
group, valid for the territories of all Schengen states, with
a minimum coverage of 30.000 (Thirty Thousand)
Guaranties of Return
- Confirmed two way air-ticket bookings or train tickets
Note:
- When entering Italy, even if you have already obtained a visa,
the border authorities are authorised to check the documentation
required for obtaining the visa itself.
- Foreigners traveling to Italy for private visit, business,
tourism and study for a period not exceeding three
months do not need to apply for a permit of stay ("permesso
di soggiorno"). Rather, they must register their presence ("dichiarazione
di presenza")
In the case of a foreigner arriving from a country that is not
part of the Schengen Agreement the registration of their presence
("dichiarazione di presenza") will be satisfied by the stamping
of the uniform Schengen stamp on the travel document at border
control.
In the case of a foreigner arriving from a country that is part
of the Schengen Agreement the foreigner must submit a "dichiarazione
di presenza" within eight days after arrival to the Chief
of Police ("questore") of the Province of stay.
For foreigners staying in hotels, a copy of the form signed at
check-in will serve as the "dichiarazione di presenza". The hotel
manager will give the foreigner a copy of the form which must
be carried while in Italy and shown to the police upon request.
Non compliance with the above procedures, except in cases of force
majeure, will determine the expulsion of the foreigner; the same
applies if the foreign citizen stays in Italy for more than three
months or if the stay exceeds the stay authorized by the visa.
Important:
No visas (and no extension to previously issued visas) may be granted
to aliens who are already on Italian territory.
