The Consulate General of Italy in Saint Petersburg covers the North-West Region of the Federation. This area consists of: the city of St. Petersburg, the Republic Karelia, and the following oblasts: Archangelsk, Leningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod, Pskov and Vologda. Applicants are requested to submit their applications in St Petersburg if residing in the above regions.

Applications for the rest of the Federation should be submitted at the Consulate of Italy in Moscow.

A visa application can be submitted by the following:
Applicant himself.
Travel Agents.

Note : Applications accepted at Italy Visa Application Centre in Saint Petersburg will be submitted to the Consulate General on the next working day. Applicants can check the status of their application on the fourth working day from the date of acceptance between 1100hrs - 1600hrs.

All foreigners intending to enter Italy must provide the documentation required to justify the reasons and duration of their stay as well as, in some prescribed cases, the availability of adequate economic means and lodging.

Schengen visa has to be obtained from the Consulate of the country where the main purpose of travel lies. Therefore, please check your travel plans before making your application to the Consulate General of Italy. In case of travel to multiple Schengen countries, please make your application to the Consulate/Embassy where you will be staying for the maximum number of days. Also, if you are already in possession of a valid Schengen visa then you cannot apply for an Italian Schengen visa.

There are no more border checks on people traveling between Schengen countries by land or sea, and checks at airports were set to end in March 2008.

Note : The citizens of the following countries are required to obtain visas for TRANSIT through Italian airports: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Colombia, Eritrea*, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal**, Somalia and Sri Lanka. PLEASE NOTE that applications for transit visas must be submitted directly to the Consulate General of Italy in Saint Petersburg.

(*) exempt from obligation if the passenger holds a valid visa or residence permit from one of the EU Member States or one of the Parties to the European Economic Area Agreement of 2 May 1992, from Canada, Switzerland or the United States.

(**) exempt from obligation if the passenger holds a valid visa or residence permit from one of the Member States of the European Economic Area, Canada, or the United States of America.

If an interview is required by the Consulate General, the applicant will be informed by the Consulate General directly.

We have no say on whether you will be granted a visa or how much time it will take to process, as this is entirely the prerogative of the Consulate of Italy to decide on.
